Ducks, Deer, Fish,
Birds and Dogs

1. Conserving Canada's Wetlands
Ducks
Unlimited Canada (DUC) has been committed to
wetland conservation for more than 65
years. Despite this, wetland loss continues across Canada.
As much as 70 per cent of Canada’s original wetlands have
been lost in some areas of the country.
DUC—a national, private, non-profit
organization—is Canada’s Conservation Company. It’s a
responsibility DUC does not take lightly
2. Trout Unlimited Canada
Trout Unlimited has a broadly based
interest in conservation and is not limited to trout. It's
mission staement is: To conserve, protect and restore
Canada’s freshwater ecosystems and their
coldwater resources for current and future
generations.
3. Trout Unlimited California
Trout
Unlimited California states that "July 1999
marked the 40th anniversary of TU’s founding, on the banks
of the Au Sable River near Grayling, Michigan. The 16
fishermen who gathered at the home of George Griffith were
united by their love of trout fishing, and by their growing
disgust with the state’s practice of stocking its waters
with “cookie cutter trout”—catchable-sized hatchery fish.
Convinced that Michigan’s trout streams could turn out a far
superior fish if left to their own devices, the anglers
formed a new organization: Trout, Unlimited (the comma was
dropped a few years later)."
4. Angling in Alaska
Angling Unlimited is a small business success story
that had a rocky ride. In 1993, on a wing and prayer, Angling
Unlimited shifted operations to this ocean front jewel in
Southeast Alaska. We freelanced for a lodge in Sitka. The
fishing exceeded the stories. It was spectacular. We never
looked back
5. Wild Birds Unlimited

of retail stores catering to the backyard bird feeding
hobbyist. They opened our their
first store in 1981 and now have more than 300

feeder at Cornell.
6. White Tail Deer
White Tail Deer Unlimited.
Founded in 1982, Whitetails Unlimited is a national
non-profit conservation organization that has remained
true to its mission and has made great strides in the
field of conservation.
7. Dobermans
Doberman Rescue Unlimited Established in
1988, Doberman Rescue Unlimited, Inc. (DRU) is a nonprofit,
charitable organization whose purpose is to rescue abused,
abandoned and unwanted Dobermans and place them in good,
safe and loving homes. We also educate the public about
Dobermans and responsible, humane animal care.
8. Greyhounds
Greyhounds Unlimited was founded in 1991
in Fort Worth, Texas by Hope Combest and several dedicated
volunteers. As with most fledgling non-profits, we started
small. However, it quickly became clear that we could
acquire and adopt many more greyhounds than our small foster
kennel could house.
Over the years, Greyhounds Unlimited has become more of a
residential foster home-based organization. This means our
volunteers foster any number of rescued greyhounds in their
private homes until the dogs are placed in permanent homes. We
have found using a residential foster home is the most
effective means of ensuring that retired racing greyhounds
become acclimated to a home environment prior to their
adoption.
